筆筒樹

多年生樹木狀蕨類，單幹直立，莖如樹木狀，高達6公尺至20公尺以上，基部滿布厚厚的黑褐色氣生根，將莖幹緊緊包住，葉叢生於幹頂，葉柄粗大密佈金褐色鱗片，脫落性，老葉托落後在樹幹留下略呈三角形的橢圓形葉痕，樹幹變形成蛇皮狀，故又名蛇木，葉為3回羽狀深裂，小羽片無柄，背面有淺色鱗片，幼葉捲旋狀，為金黃色鱗片所保護，就像是毛茸茸的問號，孢子囊圓形，不具孢膜。
