體型為中型，展翅55-65mm，雄雌蝶體色各異，雄蝶翅膀腹面淡橙黃色，翅膀正面橙黃色，下翅亞外緣具一列小黑斑。雌蝶可分兩型，白斑型翅表面暗綠色，有一條白帶縱貫前後翅，反面灰綠色，雌蝶黃斑型翅表具黃色帶。雌雄下翅末端都有一枚眼紋。
普遍分布於低中海拔山區，成蟲出現於4至11月，雄蝶具有強烈的領域性，飛行迅速，常於樹冠上層停棲，喜歡訪花及吸食腐果，幼蟲以台灣朴樹、朴樹為食草。
